  • 1. My house seems to have outgrown me, and my family thinks I need to move so I can be closer to them. I don't know where to start and it's overwhelming to me as I'm by myself. However, I know I need to do something but I'm just not ready yet! Any ideas?

As we age, maintaining a home by yourself can certainly get more challenging. I’ve found that when our adult children suggest parents move closer to them it’s a good indication they they are hopeful they can spend more time together and also be able to offer more support for each other. Going there to visit on a few occasions can test the waters to see how comfortable you are being with the city, the weather and doing activities with your family on a more frequent basis to see how it goes for all. If  you wanted  to explore the possibilities you could consider staying in an Air B&B for 2-4 weeks exploring the area and still doing activities with family and possible new people with common interests.

  • 2. Homes in our neighborhood are selling at really high prices and we are considering moving into a condo or a townhouse. However, we've not yet done any updates since we moved in 26 years ago. What improvements would we have to make to get the highest price?

Homes are definitely selling fast and at high prices.  However, I always suggest that my sellers focus on getting the highest net proceeds possible with the least inconvenience possible.  By taking a tour of a home and visiting with a prospective seller it helps to determine their timeline, budget and tolerance for anything much more than cosmetic improvements. I have several proven strategies, ideas and options that actually help my sellers achieve the highest net proceeds without doing costly major improvements. No obligation whatsoever.

  • 3. I lost my spouse 4 years ago and know I don't want to keep doing the yard work and all the stuff that comes with maintaining the inside and outside much longer. We took good care of the house but know it's starting to show some deferred maintaince. Do you have vendors who are dependable, trustworthy, and don't charge too much?

We have a great “Master Vendor List” of vendors we have used ourselves and referred to our clients and their friends. We like to hear back from our clients that the vendor did quality work, showed up on time and they were fairly priced for the work. It’s also important that they communicate timely with the customer. We have removed vendors from our list if they didn’t meet professional standards or couldn't resolve differences successfully.

  • 4. We have a 2 story home that fit our needs for raising our kids in but we've been retired for 15 years and are dealing with health and mobility issues on both our parts. We have lots of questions as we don't know where to start. How could you help us in our future planning?

We have a brochure that we can send  you that shows a path of how we can  assist anyone considering making a later in life move. Gathering good information and working with professionals is an important start for anyone. Forward visioning such as you are already doing helps us, help you create your own custom plan for all the steps and timeline you need to consider for getting a more independent and quality lifestyle accomplished. No obligation, just a candid conversation to help inform, educate and empower our Senior clients.

  • 5. My neighbor told me you helped them 5 years ago and suggested I should contact you and your team work because you work with many seniors seniors and will meet with no obligation. Would you be able to do a conference call with me and my 2 kids who live out of state? I can assure you they'll have lots of questions.

All questions are good. As we know during this process, it’s important to create a team approach with our clients and their family or friends who they choose to have help or support them in planning what they want their future to look like. At the same time, confidentiality is important from our involvement because you may not want everyone to know your decisions and wishes until you are ready. We understand and respect that. With today’s technology we can easily set up a zoom call inviting anyone you want to join us via video where your adult kids or anyone you wish, could be on the zoom call asking questions and hearing your concerns at the same time vs getting second hand information. No one has to travel out of their home this way to be part of your planning support team.  It’s all about you, not us. We can proceed as fast or as slow as our clients need.

  • 6. What is a move manager and do you have referrals for one?

A Move Manager is a vendor we who can help our clients with  variety of services starting with an initial no obligation consultation where they can visit with you in your home to answer your questions and better explain their services and how they can assist you in decluttering if needed, packing, telling you about the moving. Companies they work with, setting up your things in the place you move to and what they charge.  This can help significantly. We know of several Move Managers you could refer you to for your consideration.

  • 7. What makes you different from other realtors who say they assist seniors?

Everyone on the Kiker Team significantly helps serve our Seniors, who may be considering a future move at some point and are not only quite experienced about this great population we serve but are  extremely passionate about supporting our Senior clients from start to finish in many ways beyond the real estate part. Our goal is to help them get wherever they want to be,  on their time line with the least stress possible. Just watch several short “Client Story videos” on our website to hear what they say and share about their personal moving stories.  That’s more important than what we say.
